MOONSHOT RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM, Moonshot Goal 2: Realization of ultra-early disease prediction and intervention by 2050, Project Manager (PM): Hideki KATAGIRI (Professor, Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine)

Challenge for Eradication of Diabetes and Comorbidities through Understanding and Manipulating Homeostatic Systems

Project Manager

Professor, Tohoku University
Graduate School of Medicine

In this moonshot project, we aim to realize a society, by 2050, in which diabetes and its complications can be easily detected at a very early stage, allowing reversal of these disease conditions. To achieve this goal, we are actively collaborating with researchers in various fields, encompassing not only many areas of medical science but also pharmacology, information science, engineering, and mathematics. We are conducting research to elucidate the mechanisms that maintain homeostasis at the whole-body level, focusing on inter-organ communication, to define the very early stages of diabetes and its complications, to develop simple detection methods, and to devise optimally effective remedial strategies.
